5 Adventures for Women in Costa Rica

5 athletic adventures for women in Costa Rica

I like to be in nature as much as possible when I travel. Being in nature fuels my soul and restores my tired mind. Finding activities and excursions in other places is part of the fun.

Costa Rica holds 4-7% of the biodiversity of the entire world. No other country comes close to that percentage. Costa Rica is a tiny country with no national defense services, just police. Six different kinds of forests make up Costa Rica. Most are classified as rainforests, cloud forests, and topical dry forests.

One of hundred of waterfalls

Hiking in rainforests is a must. You can trek the pretty Manuel Antonio National Park with its gorgeous, secluded beaches. Watch the hermit crabs scurry along the coast. Paved paths and built boardwalks make it accessible for everyone. Hike Corcovado National Park to glimpse the last remaining stretch of tropical primary lowland rain forests (guided only), or tour the Monteverde Cloud Forest for an extraordinary hiking experience.

Costa Rica has a rich coastline of coral reefs for snorkeling and diving. Both the Caribbean side and the Pacific side offer tours for beginners to advanced divers and snorkeling tours of all levels. Not much for in or under the water; how about boat trips to watch dolphins in the wild? Or a morning or sunset cruise?

Dive Costa Rica

Do you like to fly? Costa Rica has a plethora of zip lines from which to choose. From the tallest, through a cloud forest, over Arenal volcano, around waterfalls, and many more. Need to fly a little slower? There are many tram tours over the canopies of the rain forests.

Zip Lines everywhere

Horseback riding is available throughout. Beaches, rainforests, trails, waterfalls, and mountains. Packages range from a few hours to all day, including lunch and other activities during the day. Need a bit more? How about canyoneering down mountains, into waterfalls, and over flora and fauna you’ve never seen before?

Horseback Riding

Relaxation is part of the vacation. Arenal Volcano has hot springs and a spa. Spend the day meandering through the different temperatures of spring baths—breath in the surrounding air. Eat healthy, fresh food, and enjoy the day with a massage, mud bath, or seaweed wrap.
